MEDIA VITA - I tipped Media Vita last start and he delivered at good odds. He has shown in the past that once he strikes form he can go on with as evidenced by a hat-trick in Canberra last year. Three weeks between runs seems to be the ideal programme for Media Vita and whilst he rises in weight to 59kg he gets a senior rider in Nigel Seymour and will enjoy the slightly easier class. Media Vita has won four times at 1200m and with a positive ride from gate eight can go on his winning way.
DAZZLING PRIDE - Dazzling Pride has had plenty of issues during his career several of which have resulted in sizeable periods of recovery but when right he is a very smart horse as seven wins from 19 starts attests. Almost exactly a year ago Dazzling Pride ran in a similar Open Handicap here over 1800m carrying 54kg with Stephen Wilson in the saddle and won. Unfortunately, he bled and resumed from a long break in February this year where he had issues with lameness and form until last start where he returned to his best winning comfortably over 1609m at Townsville. Dazzling Pride has been very consistent in the past when right and I will trust Roy Chillemi to have ready to repeat his performance of a year ago.
BAREFOOT TYCOON - Barefoot Tycoon has been an honest performer during his career with three wins and two placings from ten starts whilst with Shea Eden in Victoria. He has now transferred to David Fletcher and at his first Queensland start put in a solid effort from a wide gate in a class three at Ipswich over 1200m running second to Super Suave. That was his first outing for eight weeks and he should strip fitter for this 1400m engagement, a distance over which he has previously won. Barefoot Tycoon gets a 2kg claim here for Jackson Murphy and with a more positive ride can put away this moderate class three field.
GEOMETRIST - One of the few remaining Octagonal’s running around, Geometrist is far from his sire in ability but has had four runs back from a letup and Marcus Wilson has found a race here that is within his capabilities. Two starts back he put in a solid effort over 1600m at Sunshine Coast in a Benchmark 75 and then was backed up quickly into a Benchmark 70 over 1680m at Ipswich in which he only battled but was far from disgraced and may not have appreciated the soft track. Geometrist has had a two-week break and should be in peak condition for this Benchmark 62 at a track and distance at which he has won once and not missed a place in four attempts. Ryan Plumb has won and been narrowly beaten at his past two rides on Geometrist over this journey and from gate four will give him every chance.
BRONZED VENOM - The Dunn-trained Bronzed Venom tackles the Casino RSM Club Beef Week Cup (1400m) and is ready to win second-up returning to a dry racing surface. A winner of four races from his 15 career starts including a Highway Handicap win at Randwick third-up last preparation, Bronzed Venom is at his best on top of the ground and the career statistics back up the assertion with each of the four wins coming on dry ground. Bronzed Venom didn’t fire at the Gold Coast resuming last start striking a heavy (8) racing surface but was a significant firmer in betting ($6-$4.80) suggesting the gelding had been showing the stable something. With a good (4) track posted for racing at Casino on Friday, Bronzed Venom gets his preferred track conditions and will take a power of beating in the feature race with the first-up run under his belt.
